Vegan Food: Sauces and Condiments
Seggiano Vegan Pesto.jpg

Seggiano’s pestos are seriously delicious and you won’t believe they come out of a jar because they taste homemade. I’ve had to reread the Pesto Genovese label a few times to make sure this is vegan because the cashew nuts really give it a parmesan-like flavour. The Wild Fennel Pesto is a great twist on the original, with a delightfully complex flavour. Use on pasta, in sandwiches, as a dip or in salads. Without a doubt the best I’ve ever tried made outside an Italian kitchen. From £5.30

Sacla Vegan White sauce.jpg

How have I missed a good white sauce! Since becoming vegan I’ve never had a proper bechamel, but Sacla’ has come to the rescue with a vegan white sauce that tastes just like the original. £2.50

Coconut Aminoacids.jpg

Made from organic coconut nectar and sea salt, these coconut aminos have a savoury taste with a touch of sweetness, which is not dissimilar to soy sauce, but has more depth and, in my opinion, a more interesting flavour. It works well on tofu, marinades, salad dressings and as a dip for crudités or vegan tempura. A great, delicious alternative for those allergic to soy too. £5.49

Jack Daniels Barbecue Sauce.jpg

Jack Daniel’s lovers rejoice because the Tennessee Whiskey brand has launched a range of vegan barbecue sauces for burgers, vegan ‘meats’ and marinades. We really liked the Smooth Original, Smokey Sweet and Full Flavour Smokey, which work beautifully as a glaze for tofu, tempeh and seitan and on barbecued cauliflower wings. £1.50

Sacla Vegan bolognese sauce.jpg

With pea protein, this delicious sauce takes the hassle out of making your own bolognese (or ragu’ as it’s known in Italy). Perfect on pasta, lasagne and vegetable bakes. £2.50

Coconut Merchant Premium Latch Jar Raw Virgin Coconut Oil

If you’ve been reading Ethica Magazine for a while, you’ll know I’m a fan of coconut oil. I use it for cooking, marinades, I add a teaspoon to smoothies and even keep a tub in the bathroom to use as a makeup remover and a face and body moisturiser. This by Coconut Merchant has a lovely coconutty flavour (which you don’t really get with refined coconut oil) and I love the reusable glass jar, which ticks my sustainability box. £16.99 for 1L
