Veganuary 2019: Take the Pledge and Go Vegan this January

Tens of thousands of people across the world have signed up to try vegan for a month with Veganuary. If you haven’t yet now it’s time to take the challenge and register.

Now in its fifth year, the Veganuary campaign has seen participants more than double each year. Veganuary says that over 250,000 people, in 193 countries can now call themselves a ‘Veganuary alumni’.

Rich Hardy, Head of Campaigns at Veganuary says: “The secret to Veganuary’s campaign success has been a combination of its month-long pledge series, its engaging content, the celebrity support it attracts and its non-judgemental approach to getting people to try veganism for the first time. Veganuary is dedicated to changing public attitudes, while providing all the information and practical support required to make the transition to veganism as easy and enjoyable as possible. Going vegan in 2018 has never been far from the news headlines, and trying the Veganuary pledge is often one of the first references used in backing up the headline itself. But 2019 will be the year of the vegan, particularly because the supply of vegan product available will meet the demand.”

In 2019 being vegan couldn’t be easier. Many supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrisons, Marks and Spencer, Waitrose and Asda stock a huge variety of vegan foods and ready meals, including Oumph!, Wicked Healthy and Feed Me Vegan and several, also have their own line of vegan food.
Sainsbury have just expanded their Love Your Veg! brand, with delicious sausages, pizza, stews and curries on offer and word has it, they are also about to launch their own vegan smoked salmon (you’ve no idea how much we are looking forward to that), and even Greggs sells a new (and very tasty) vegan sausage roll now!

There are also lots of superb vegan restaurants around these days, and many high street chains, such as Wagamama and Pizza Express, now have a good choice of plant-based food on their menu, as well as delivery services such as Deliveroo and Just Eat.

You really needn’t go without your favourite food this Veganuary: vegan versions of cakes, mayonnaise, meringue, pastries, cheese, ice-cream, chocolate, pate, cream, custard, meats and fish (including fish and chips!) all exist and they are all easy to get!
