Years ago, aside from the occasional pair of trainers and ankle boots, I'd rarely wear flat shoes. I felt that heels were more elegant and that many vegan shoes on the market then were a little frumpy.
It was when I moved to a particularly hilly area of London that I ditched the heel. Not that I stopped wearing them altogether but certainly a lot less than I used to. Luckily for me around this time lots of fantastic vegan shoe brands started coming out, and their selection of flats expanded too.
Flats and low-heeled shoes are huge now, and so they should be: they look fab and are very comfortable to wear.
Italian brand Scotti Vegan Shoes have many gorgeous designs: from statement metallic brogues, to classic black slip-ons and one of the prettiest pumps we've seen, their red Nivi.
Matt&Nat's low heeled Castelnau is impossibly chic and works perfectly with trousers, dresses and skirts.
Noah also have a big selection of flats, from chic to casual. We love their Loretta slip ons, which have a preppy vibe.
If trainers are your thing, Esprit do a selection of gorgeous vegan ones, from high tops to velcro. Eco Vegan Shoes' Soft Sneakers are really pretty and come in 10 gorgeous colours, from black to pink and green. Ethical shoe brand Po-Zu have launched a gorgeous collection of trainers and boots to coincide with the new Star Wars film, Star Wars - The Last Jedi, which opens 14 December. This collection is cooler than cool and we love the Resistance design.
Bahatika's super trendy Badawi add a little height thanks to their chunky white platform sole and are as cool as it gets, whilst Dr Martens do a vegan version of their Polley design, perfect for fans of the cult shoe brand.
These days, when it comes to flats, us vegans are spoilt for choice, and with some many beautiful styles on the market, there's a pair for everyone.
