Let's Eat All the Pies! Young Vegans Open Vegan Pie and Mash Shop in Camden Market

Can vegans have it all? Burgers, pizza, cake, ribs, wings, fish(less) and chips, but where are the all the pies? In Camden my friends, where vegan pie and mash geniuses Young Vegans, have recently opened a shop.

After serving their delicious food at Tottenham market and Hackney Downs vegan market, Marco and Carla Casadei decided to look for more permanent (and indoor) premises and recently opened their small but lovely shop in Camden Market.

Carla is the chef whilst husband Marco looks after the business side of things. For both food has always been important. Carla worked in kitchens before, whilst Marco grew up with an Italian father and an Austrian mother, so meals were always a big part of family life.
Marco admits that when they started the business, they had a few duds, but they kept at it, until their pies tasted just like they wanted to (and got his foodie dad's seal of approval).

Their menu offers four types of pie: their best seller, seitan and ale, all day breakfast which contains scrambled tofu, vegan sausages, smokey baked beans and caramelised onions, curry pie with butternut squash, chana kala peas and curry sauce of course, and a gluten free sweet potato pie made with chickpea flour.
The pies are served with delicious, non dairy, buttery mash, flavoursome gravy and are topped with rocket salad, which compliments them really well, adding a fresh peppery taste.
Everything is made from scratch: from the melt in the mouth flaky pastry to the chunky and juicy seitan.

The pie and mash can be bought to go or enjoyed on the premises, as their shop has a few indoor and outdoor seats, where you can eat whilst watching the world go by.

If you still have room, try their peanut butter brownies. Decadent they may be but if you are coeliac or avoid gluten, you'll be pleased to hear that these sweet treats are gluten free.

And if this is not enough, the price point is spot on too: £7 for a good, satisfying portion of pie and mash and £3 for a brownie.

This is comfort food at its best, so do yourself a favour, get yourself to Camden Market and eat to your heart's content. After all, these days us vegans really can have it all.

Young Vegans are located at 60 Camden Lock Place, London NW1 8AF and open everyday from 11 until 7.
