Tucked away in a quiet street near the bustling hub of Piccadilly Circus, Enzo’s Kitchen is an authentic Sicilian eatery that is a peaceful haven from the buzz of central London nightlife.
The evening we visited, we were welcomed by a house of incredibly friendly staff, who spoke to us about Sicilian cuisine and provided us with a special separate vegan menu (yay!).
Once we had been settled in with an Aperol Spritz and a fresh, fizzy glass of delicious prosecco, we perused the menu and selected some seriously tasty Sicilian food.
We started with a tomato bruschetta and an authentic balsamic, garlic and pumpkin dish (zucca in agrodolce) that was sweet, yet offset by a heady sesame bread that brought a delicious crunch and savoury hit to each bite. The bruschetta was fresh and full of flavour; the perfect opening to a decadent Mediterranean meal.
For main we tried the pasta del contadino (‘farmer’s pasta’), which is a seasonal vegetable and pasta dish with fresh, flavoursome veg like broad beans and artichokes. It was so, so tasty and wasn’t heavy unlike some Italian pasta dishes. The casarecce pasta was perfectly cooked and the veg were sautéed lightly and kept fresh, delicately seasoned and peppered with fine mint, so each bite sung beautifully in the mouth. Truly a perfect dish for hot, heavy evenings in the city.
Throughout the meal, the staff were incredibly attentive and warm, and regaled us with Sicilian facts and schooled us on the unique culture and cuisine. A helpful sommelier guided us through the wine list and picked something that accompanied our mains perfectly.
For dessert we plumped for the sgroppino di granita al limone (a homemade Sicilan lemon sorbet using crushed ice and freshly squeezed lemon juice) which was served in an elegant cocktail glass and proved to be the perfect refreshing palate-cleansing end to a flavour packed, delicious meal.
We highly recommend Enzo’s for a sumptuous summer evening out, with some tasty plant-based food, decadent drinks and best of all, a wonderful friendly and buzzing atmosphere. It’s a peaceful, charming oasis in the hustle of the city lights and we love it. Enjoy!
